An ivory satin top with a black patent skirt. The top is sleeveless with a high standing collar, and down the front runs a pleated bib of finely folded satin with a single narrow black strip laid along the opening, which is the only line that connects it to the skirt.

The skirt is short and cut straight from a high waist, in black patent with a hard shine, and it is entirely plain. The waistband is bound in the same patent so nothing softens the join.

The collar stands on its own interfacing and can be lowered, and the bib is pressed in place rather than stitched down, so the pleats stay live. Patent is not a forgiving cloth. It shows every pull, so we cut it slightly away from the body and line it fully. Both pieces are made separately and are worn with other things.
