The house in metal and stone

Devotion Fine jewellery from the couture atelier in Amman.

Thirty-nine pieces in crystal, pearl and worked metal. They are cut and finished in the couture rooms of the house, by the hands that set the stones on the gowns. Nothing here is numbered: every piece is named from the object it is.

Earrings

Drops, studs, chandeliers and tassels. The largest group in the line, and the one that changes most from piece to piece.

Necklaces

Seven

Collars, bibs and plastrons, worked flat so they sit against the collarbone rather than over it.

Cuffs

Four

Rigid, hinged or bypass. Hammered gold-tone metal, crystal and seed pearl, set on a band that holds its own shape.

Brooches

Two

Two only. Both are pinned pieces with a free-hanging element, made for a lapel, a sash or a bag.

Crowns

Three

Bridal. Foliate scrollwork, arches and set stones, sized to be worn with a veil or without one.

How they are made

Set by hand, in the rooms where the gowns are finished.

Devotion came out of the couture workroom. The crystal, pearl and enamel work on a Hanan Bakri gown is done by hand at the bench, and these thirty-nine pieces are made at the same bench by the same people. Stones are set one at a time, so the coverage is never perfectly even and the light breaks across a piece instead of sheeting off it.

Metal is called gold-tone or silver-tone throughout this catalogue, and a stone is called a crystal unless the atelier can say otherwise. Overclaiming a material is not a thing this house does, in copy or at a fitting.
