A scarlet silk shirt worn with black and ivory striped trousers. The shirt has a proper collar and a full placket, and at the chest a self-fabric tie is stitched in and knotted into a small bow, leaving the neckline open below it rather than buttoned to the throat. The sleeves are long with a deep buttoned cuff.

The trousers carry vertical stripes in black and ivory, cut straight and matched down the outside seam so the stripe runs unbroken from waist to hem. They are the reason the outfit works: vertical below, solid above, so the red is a block and not a pattern.
