A Note from the Atelier

Sizes are an approximation. Your piece is not.

Maison does not work to standard sizes. Each commission is cut from your own measurements, taken on the day of your first consultation - fourteen points or more, depending on the piece. If you cannot visit the atelier in advance, we will guide you through measurements remotely, or arrange a tailor we trust in your city.

How Measurements Are Taken

Four notes, gently observed.

A good measurement is taken in light clothing, over the foundation garments you intend to wear with the finished piece. Stand naturally - neither pulled up nor slumped. Use a soft tailor's measuring tape, drawn snug but never pulled tight against the body.

If you are sending measurements ahead of a consultation, ask another person to take them rather than measuring yourself. The accuracy of a second pair of hands is worth the inconvenience.

i - Bust
The tape sits horizontally, at the fullest point. Arms relaxed at the side. Breathe normally.

ii - Waist
The natural waist - the narrowest point between the ribcage and the hipbone. Bend gently to one side; the crease that forms marks it.

iii - Hip
Roughly twenty centimetres below the natural waist, at the fullest part of the seat. Feet together.

iv - Length
From the nape of the neck, straight down, to the desired hem - floor, ankle, mid-calf. Wear the shoes you will pair with the finished piece.

For orientation only. The table below correlates broad European sizes to body measurements - Maison's own pieces are cut beyond such conventions.
